- ...Incidentally, wondering now about yesterday's hell verses in the context of the destruction of Jerusalem. After all, why live if all will be destroyed? If the world is dangerous and living could end up in death? But with Christ, to die is gain. And fearing the one who can destroy both body and soul in Gehenna - don't fear the Romans and their violence, you only need fear Satan. (And he is a mostly-vanquished foe?)

- Jesus talking about John once he's reminded him of prophecies fulfilled: maybe better for John's honour than John hearing? And possibly it would've got back to him anyway?

- The woe to unrepentant cities could also refer to the destruction of Jerusalem? But it also makes more sense that he's speaking woe after he went to them and they did not repent. (And don't prophets tend to speak woe so that people might repent?)

- God lifts up those who are downtrodded; reveals his secrets to the infants and not the wise.

- All things handed over is beautiful/hopeful.

- Jesus can reveal the Father to anyone he chooses.

- Matthew 11:28-30 (maybe 25-30) is one of my favourite passages. 'Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.'
