- This is bizarre in that it's intimate partner violence used to depict the relationship between God and his people. Batter My Heart and others cover this theme of relational violence in the Old Testament.

- Then God switches to romance and wooing.

- An end to violence and war and the beginning of safety.

- There are some lovely verses here: “So I am going to attract her;
I will lead her into the desert
and speak tenderly to her.
15 There I will give her back her vineyards,
and I will make the Valley of Trouble a door of hope.
There she will respond as when she was young,
as when she came out of Egypt.”

- God is good and fair, will show us Her love and mercy, will be true to us.

- And God making the land rich and fertile again!

- Showing pity to those He had called 'not shown pity' and calling 'my people' those Zie had called 'not my people'.

- Violence and anger followed by kindness and hope. In a relationship this would be the honeymoon period of the abuse cycle, where the abuser apologises and is kind again. But in the case of the Bible and God, I choose to take the loving aspect as who God truly is and the anger as misinterpretation - thankfully we have the figure of Jesus to guide us towards God's true nature.
